On my way to Lukla – or at least to Kathmandu airport

This is just a short note to let you know that I will be off to Lukla tomorrow, or shall I say I will certainly be off to Kathmandu airport at 6am and I am hoping that planes will be able to land in the Khumbu. The Himex team has arrived in Lobuche this morning, and according to Alex, my photographer friend, it has been snowing in Namche all day.

However, I spoke to another mountaineer, who had just come back from the Everest region, and he told me that Everest actually looked quite dry. So, let’s hope that conditions will be good this year.

If the weather allows planes to land in Lukla tomorrow, I will try and get to Namche as I will be walking on my own without a porter or a guide. However, I might join forces with Ellen Miller from the United States, who is also on the Himex team but will be climbing Lhotse this year. She has already summited Everest twice and became the first American woman to climb Chomolungma (Tibetan name for Mount Everest) from its north and south sides.
