Licht für Kinder e.V.

Licht für Kinder was founded in 2018 when an expedition visited a remote mountain village in Nepal at an altitude of 5,000 metres. The villagers invited the mountaineers to visit the local school – and they dicovered that there was no light. But how could the children, who often help in the fields during the day, study at night?

This question sparked an idea, which eventually became an organization that I have been supporting since the beginning of this year. What makes Licht für Kinder special is the people behind it: dedicated volunteers committed to giving yound Nepalese a better future.
Everyone works on a voluntary basis!

Sherpa Nepalhilfe

The Sherpa Nepalhilfe was founded by my good friend, endurance athlete, mountaineer, and orthopedic surgeon Matthias Baumann from Tübingen after the events on Mount Everest and in Nepal in 2014 and 2015 when an earthquake shook the Himalayan nation. In 2014, Matthias was attempting to climb Everest when an avalanche in the Khumbu Icefall killed 16 Sherpas. Matthias did not hesitate and organized the first medical aid for the victims. Afterwards, he visited all the families of the deceased Sherpas to give them initial donations. Back in Germany, he raised €100,000 to establish sponsorships for the affected Sherpa children.

These were the beginnings of the Sherpa Nepalhilfe, which now supports the Nepalese population, whether by building a hospital in Phakding in the Everest region or by rebuilding urgently needed schools.

Thank you, Matthias, for your commitment to the people of Nepal!
