A quick update. We have been at K2 BC for 3 days now, settling in and getting acclimatised. The setting is just stunning and even though K2 is the more domineering mountain of the lot, I am also in awe of broad peak, which is majestically towering above us. The route looks quite steep and I have the feeling that it will be a tough climb.
At the crack of dawn on Wednesday the Sherpas did their traditional Puja (Buddhist) ceremony and our four Balti guys polished it off with their Muslim prayers. It felt very special as both religions met each other.
The Sherpas and our Balti guides will fix the rope to camp 1 on both k2 and broad peak on Thursday and we will follow them to get a feel for the route. As I am the only one in the Himex expedition, who is doing ONLY Broad Peak, most of our 13 members will go to K2 tomorrow.
I will follow the rope fixing Sherpas together with Rene from Holland and Nick from Canada. I am very excited to be climbing again and I will keep you posted on how it went.
