Most of you might have heard already that Russell Brice has cancelled all his Himalayan expeditions for this season. The reason is the particularly dangerous route through the icefall this year as well as the rockfall on the Lhotse Face. You will find the reasons for this difficult decision on the Himex website on www.himalayanexperience.com.
Reunion after many years – Mobica, Lydia and I Most of our members have left already, however, I will stay for another week at base camp to finish up some Miss Hawley interviews and do some journalism as there are some interesting projects and people around.
It feels very strange not to have climbed on the mountain this year and not having been through the icefall but maybe it is better this way. It has been a weird season and I get the feeling that Chomolungma, the Tibetan name for Everest, needs a break this year. Other expeditions have decided to stay and I hope that they’ll all have safe trips through the icefall and up the mountain – especially their Shetpas, who do many more trips up and down as they are carrying the heavy loads. I’ll keep you posted. Enjoy the spring wherever you are – after having been on expedition in spring for many years, I am starting to miss the change to the warm season.
